Rose and Crown Tavern Spoon Bread
Wet Ingredients:
2 cups whole milk
2 cups water
2 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Add later:
3 eggs
Dry Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup corn meal
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Dash of nutmeg
Grease 2 1/2 quart baking dish (about 9" square)
Pre-mix dry ingredients and set aside.
Bring wet ingredients to a boil.
Add pre-mixed dry ingredients to boiled mixture and stir thoroughly.
Cool before adding whipped eggs.
(This is critical as eggs will scramble if the mixture is too hot.)
Bake at 325 for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
